the Staircase by Corviid the Staircase by Corviid
This piece is replete with symbolism and obscure meaning for me. However, I'd rather you find your own with it. Feel free to let me know how it speaks to you.

This is an amazing piece of art right here. A true labor of love that must have taken forever. I came upon this image years ago and I still go back to this page to check it out from time to time.

Personal interpretation: The journey of the soul. At the lower left, you see the protagonist. Bound, in agony, with tendrils ripping on through. Oh this life business is a painful affair, right? Before the protagonist, a stairway--a long and arduous journey--if he/she can escape the tendrils that is! The stairs just seem to go on forever....and then, near the top of the stairs, a void, a chasm. Dark night of the soul, one might call it. The abyss, the void. Crossing that empty space and making to to the destination and our protagonist is taken right back where he's from. Right back to the self, on a somewhat higher level.

Archetypical stuff, right here. And that's what I love about this image, it is archetypical and idiosyncratic. The artist said "replete with symbolism and obscure meaning for me"...to me, I see a personal journey, one that is intensely, personal. Even gooey, painful, weird and dark. Universal, at the same time.
I wonder about the roots at the base of the organic quagmire. Also, at the top, I wonder about the pipe-works, what might be a ladder, and the bio-mechanics that are also hinted at. Things get more complicated at the higher levels perhaps? And the ladder laid amongst the pipe-works, a pathway to another higher level, after the stairs?

Overall, a visually stunning piece with a deeply resonant and transformative, spiritual/psychologically evolutionary aspect about it.

A Great Work of Art.

The road leads you back to your self in the end. A higher level of your self, though.

To me, this work is a joy of madness. A celebration of the darkness within ourselves, and an exaltation of the beautifully grotesque.

Its great, its beautifull, but also a bit scary, because of shapes i think and less of colours, it reminds me a bones because there is such contrast - white in black, deep, very deep black which is claiming my mind there inside... and I can't stop looking, like it would help me to figure out the point

I love detals and the concept...I love work that captures you and don't want let go... and it don't want to let me go

Ha! You're not the first person to make a similar comment when viewing this piece. I take that as a huge compliment, because I was completely sober when I made this (nor have I ever taken hallucinogenic drugs).

Oh what a tangled web we weave...that's what this makes me think of. A web of lies and misconceptions spreading throughout infinity without end, and without a beginning.

I absolutely love the detail, and the shading. Of course it goes without saying that this is a very unique and interesting concept, and well executed.

I like how it is open to interpretation, and that viewers can see what they want, rather than a piece that portrays what the artist wants you to SEE.

I think you've just become one of my new idols. I'm going to need to keep an eye on you :)

this is really cool :)

for me it feels like the complicated mess of detail is 'thought - planning - memory' and the staircase is the future slowly disappearing out of sight and floating on hopes and dreams - but more and more obscure and scary as it goes further into the darkness and doesn't seem to be held up by anything at all. I like how it circles around again cause that makes sense ...as the future becomes a memory too one day. :)

With this - as well as a lot of my pieces - I actually didn't have a clear idea of why I was creating it when I started; but usually as a part of the process answers come to the surface. With this one I think a lot of the mystery still remains buried in my subconscious. I can say it has to do with dialectical monism (i.e. the illusion of duality) and the early stages of my continually developing obsession with the void and nothingness.

oh thats cool, yes its for sure a void feeling :) or going towards a void...I like that you dont have a clear idea of what you are doing, even in the end..cause sometimes yes, it does have meaning, but it isnt always apparent even to the person doing it! i think you come back to this type of drawing more than ones that are totally clear right away.

good point! Even when I do have a personal story behind something, I don't try to hit people over the head with it (so to speak) because I am really interested in hearing what they see in. When you hear what a person sees in your work, you're getting the opportunity to meet them where they're truly at and see an honest part of them, if you have the eyes to see it.

totally, i think it should take a little work to figure out how to represent whatever it is and also to see it in other people's work...i mean some pieces that hit you over the head are awesome, but then thats it, its done. thats cool i didn't think of it as 'meeting' a person where they are, like for them to see what they see, i think youre right..

How very unique, in it are roots of a tree at the bottom of the earth, in the dark centre perhaps, where a creature that judges the living and dead dwells, it's a balance of light and dark, yet at the sight of this obsuce creature one may be stunned fear and awe all together, it that resembles many things ~ cobwebs, roots, skeletons, gems, chandeliers mechanisms and many more, resembles a grand dressing for the great obscure creation...it guards the stairway leading to fate, and lives by the side of a misty murky lake at the bottom of the Dark Abyss....

Truely breathtaking with the details adorened in this abstract and surreal art, never I have seen such originallity in a piece of artwork as this, that resembles many worldly things into every detail taken with great care at every stroke. You have done so well, there's no word that can describe the rarity and elegance of this piece of art. Congragulations!

it's wonderful how you give tons of information and delicious details on the left and then combine it with the black void (one of my most favourite things). how i would love to crawl inside those tangles and explore what's inside!
