This piece went through a bit of a journey after it was purchased..
A lady bought this at Tribal Fest 09 and absolutely adored it. Shortly thereafter the skull was crushed in a freak hugging accident. I hadn't reinforced this skull because it's so much sturdier than any of the skulls I worked with, but I learned my lesson the hard way that all my skulls need to be reinforced to be wearable.
She was so gracious about it, however, and insisted that it was fine and she'd live with it as it was. I insisted otherwise, and after obtaining the piece back from her I went about fixing it. I didn't want to toss the skull, since animal remnants are to be treasured and not thrown away. So I reconstructed the smashed parts out of polymer clay and repainted the entire thing. I wanted to do something a little extra for her to make up for the whole situation, so I added on some extra wirework and hanging chain, then reinforced the entire thing with a coat of resin.
You can see some WIP photos (including the original skull as sold) here:
[link]Materials: mink skull, polymer clay, resin, boa ribs, cotton cord, feathers, brass finding, brass chain, sterling silver closures and clasps.
There is a clasp on either end so this can be worn as a necklace or as an attachment to costuming (namely, dance)
This piece is sold.
My actual statement was 'no other words than fucking badass'
..but I'm assuming, because I put a period between the two words, teh internets thought it was a URL. Whoops!
He is adorable! Marvelous piece.
