Dirge by Corviid Dirge by Corviid
Nature does not weep for us so much as we weep for ourselves.

The earth is indifferent to our passing. We erect monuments of iron and stone to stave off acceptance of our merely ephemeral presence here. In time everything is dissolved back from whence it came: chaos will encroach and even these monuments will crumble back into the ground. This is not good or bad, it just is.

Approximately 15" x 19". Mixed media on watercolor paper. Frame from Ikea.

You can now get this as a print! Click on the thumbnail and go to the 'Buy this Print' link on the right side of the screen:

I'm fairly certain this was a plain oak frame from Ikea, and then when you added your work to it, the frame was morphed into something dark and elegant. Your art transmogrifies the worldly frame to something of wonderland dreams.

It sure is from Ikea. Sometimes the frame gets compliments before the artwork, but I tell the art not to get jealous; that's just how it goes sometimes.

Thank you so much for such an eloquent compliment!

yeah.. Ikea frame. So you could totally do an imposter of the original if you had a print. I'll work on that..

Such detail! It's lovely. The idea behind it perfectly juxtaposes the elegance of the frame. The technique is flawless... you achieve so much depth. The architectural elements becoming lost to the natural elements. Beautiful.

I've had my eye on that frame for a while... Whenever we go, though, we end up getting things that are practical, and not necessarily pretty. This is something that must change. ;)

Thank you for your comments! It lets me know I achieve at least part of what I was going for..there is always that discontent though, but it's what drives us forward.

I love that frame. I think everyone I know has one, as any other cool oval frame that large is difficult to find. It's also inexpensive, so you should just consider it a practical item next time you go.

Great balance between the frame and painting (Visually). Although I do wish the photo was a little lighter/more contrast between the background and the frame. Especially towards the bottom as the frame gets lost in there... Love the piece though.

thank you very much. I bought the frame first with no idea what I was going to use it for. I'm pretty happy with the final product.
